Thin Films

Assessment of the quality of coatings and thin films.

The Problem

To ensure a homogeneous coating and a consistent thickness during a coating process is important for product quality. Methods for measuring the thickness are often time consuming and require specific data treatment. Therefore these methods are mostly not suitable for the analysis of thin films to ensure high quality.

Our Solution

Our Lock-in thermography systems can be used to measure the reproducibility of a coating. The coating is heated by a light source, and analyzed by a highly sensitive infrared imaging method, so that small changes in the quality and thickness of the material can be detected. Differences of a few nanometers coating thickness can be observed. Short measurement times allow the use for quality control during a coating process.
